In Miami recently with 300+ of the top advisors in the country I’m having a blast. Great food, great music, good professional and personal visits with some of my best friends in the industry.
About 8 PM, I step outside and walk past one advisor on his cell phone. In the 5 seconds I’m within earshot he says:
“I don’t know if it’s an ink or a laser printer. But since I’m gone, call Jodie and maybe she can figure it out.”
What?!? Are you serious?
This is a highly-paid, educated, top 1% of his field advisor. But he’s taking time away from his spouse, his incentive trip and his own enjoyment to talk about printers! This got me thinking:
- How much of this busy work are you doing?
- How quickly can you stop it? Seriously. Stop it, outsource it, something. But quit doing things like this!
- (This is a question I stole from a $200 million per year annual producer) Do you work for your business or does your business work for you?
- And if you stepped away to Miami for 5 days, Europe for 2 weeks or Africa for a month – what would your business look like when you came home?
Being an independent advisor and entrepreneur, you created this environment. For everyone’s sake, I hope it’s not filled with printer cartridges.
