A long time ago I learned, “He’s a nice guy” hurts.
And when I ask “What do you think (about something I created)” hearing, “It’s good” stings too.
“He’s a nice guy” equals he’s unremarkable.
It means I have nothing to say about that person, good or bad. They’re there. I’ll be pleasant and call them nice. Please…don’t call me a “nice guy”. Love my presence or hate it. Recall something I said or did that impacted your life. Bring up a quality or trait that sticks out above the fray. Let me make a mark on you somehow!
“It’s good” feels the same.
Blah, blah, blah. It’s better defined as – your contribution will be dismissed or at best blend in. “It’s good”. I’d rather you throw it in the trash. Give me feedback to make it extraordinary or tell me to start over. Engrain my work into your future. Or tell someone my work is nuts and will never work. But don’t call it good and move on.
